A Symbol of Iceland - A Viking Ship
The Sun Voyager by Jón Gunnar Árnason can easily be reached by foot from the city center. It is just along the northern waterfront sitting next to a bike/walking path that runs along the water. Aligning with the setting sun the sculpture of a viking ship is meant to act as a reminder of Reykjavik's history. No traveller can walk past without getting their picture snapped next to it making it the most photographed piece of art in Reykjavik. I will have to get back to The Sun Voyager over the next few days to test if it does point in the direction of the setting sun, and to get a couple more pictures of it with the colours of dusk flashing behind it.

A Viking ship sculpture sure is a good site to take pictures. I wish I was there in Iceland!
ReplyDeleteThe Vikings were the first settlers in Iceland, so they are really a "Symbol" for Iceland. They even have an Icelandic beer called Viking. I wish you were here with me too! It would be fun to learn about the world together.
