Originally a dish that involved fermenting fish in vinegar (making the fish sour) before eating it, sushi as we know it today was only invented in the early 1800's as a form of fast food. Japanese people wanted a food that could be eaten quickly on the street or in a theatre, and that is when raw fish started being used instead of fermented fish.

Done all my sushi, I am using my chopsticks to dig for more meat in these lobster heads from my lobster miso soup. |
Hey Mr. P!! The only sushi my brothers and I like are terryaki chicken and plane rice rolls! Mommy says that's not sushi!! We miss you so so much! Stay safe and love all your pics!!

Hey Jessica,
ReplyDeleteYour mom is right (she always is, a good lesson to learn now!) Sushi, real sushi, usually has some sort of raw (or almost raw) fish in it. Canadians have changed this to make sushi more "Canadian", and you can get rolls with fake crab, vegetables and even cream cheese in them. You would never find these rolls in a proper Japanese sushi restaurant! Hope you and your brothers are well, and that you are enjoying school.
Miss you too!
Mr. P
Wow, you have made me so hungry, we are definitely having sushi tonight! Elliot and Kiki like the maki, I'm a sashimi fan!
ReplyDeleteElliot says "hi". He's lying on the couch with a fever right now! He hopes you're having a great time. He read your blog about the scary waves at the beach and he's glad you're okay!
Hope you enjoyed your sushi tonight! Also hope Elliot is feeling better...being sick is terrible. I am glad to be okay too.
ReplyDeleteI will have to post pictures of the waves I saw at the North Shore. Those waves are as big as houses!! It is crazy to see them in person...just amazing.
